According to new USDA data, the 2025/26 season produced more than 17 billion bushels of corn, with stockpiles expected to reach their highest levels in eight years. - In 2024, at least 34 grain entrapments were documented, a 25% increase from the previous year
- 584 entrapments occurred between 2007 and 2024, with an estimated 30% going unreported
- An adult can become trapped knee-deep in flowing grain in just four seconds
- Full engulfment can happen in as little as 20 seconds
- Most importantly, 100% of grain bin entrapments are preventable
These incidents often occur when grain bridges, crusts, or spoils — requiring someone to enter the bin to manually address the problem.
